All I Wanna Do Is Make Love to You by Heart

When I was younger, I loved this song, but I wondered about the story behind it. Today, it played when I had my iTunes on shuffle. I thought about the story behind the song again, and realized it may be a subject that could cause some interesting conversations on a blog. So, here we go. What are your thoughts? I bet many of my author friends could come up with a book based off this song.

What I take from this song is she’s in love with her man, they want a baby, but he’s infertile. She picks up a hitchhiker one rainy night and decides he could be the answer to her prayers. Now, why she would just choose a random stranger to help her with this situation is beyond me. Maybe they couldn’t afford a sperm donor or something. Oh, and since she knows the hotel, she’s apparently tried this before. And…WOW, can you imagine what the man thought when he ran into her later and saw the child that was obviously his? OMGosh! Anyone else hear a different story from this song?

Thanks in advance for the entertainment I’m going to get from the comments. I look forward to this. 🙂

Below are the lyrics in case you need them. Thanks.

Heart

Lyrics

It was a rainy night when he came into sight
Standing by the road, no umbrella, no coat
So I pulled up alongside and I offered him a ride
He accepted with a smile so we drove for a while
I didn’t ask him his name, this lonely boy in the rain
Fate tell me it’s right, is this love at first sight
Please don’t make it wrong, just stay for the night
All I want to do is make love to you
Say you will you want me too
All I want to do is make love to you
I’ve got lovin’ arms to hold on to

So we found this hotel, it was a place I knew well
We made magic that night. Oh, he did everything right
He brought the woman out of me, so many times, easily
And in the morning when he woke all I left him was a note
I told him I am the flower you are the seed
We walked in the garden we planted a tree
Don’t try to find me, please don’t you dare
Just live in my memory, you’ll always be there

All I want to do is make love to you
One night of love was all we knew
All want to do is make love to you
I’ve got lovin’ arms to hold on to

Oh, oooh, we made love
Love like strangers
All night long
We made love

Then it happened one day, we came round the same way
You can imagine his surprise when he saw his own eyes
I said please, please understand
I’m in love with another man
And what he couldn’t give me
was the one little thing that you can

All I want to do is make love to you
One night of love was all we knew
All I want to do is make love to you
Come on, say you will, you want me too

All I want to do is make love to you
One night of love was all we knew
All I want to do is make love to you
Say you will, you want me too

All night long…

  1. I always find it interesting to really listen to lyrics now that I just along with when I was younger without thinking anything about it. Especially when my kids were young, I’d find myself crooning away on an old favorite and think, hmmm, maybe I shouldn’t be singing that. You’re right; this is a story that’s been told and could be told over and over. A lot left unsaid to be explored, and the rain could make for some good symbolism or another “character.” But more importantly (not really) is that it’s written my “Mutt” Lange. I didn’t even know who he was until Shania Twain came along.

    1. Yeah, and Heart didn’t want to preform it, which I thought was interesting.
I love songs that symbolizes something. So cool to look for the hidden meanings.
Another one I used to analyze was Fancy by Reba. Broke my heart, but loved it. Lol
